On Monday, August 1, 2011, Republican Mike Beitler announced his candidacy and intent to seek the Republican nomination for Secretary of State of North Carolina.
Beitler, who ran in 2010 as a Libertarian for U.S. Senate, has rejoined the Republican Party and has spent much of the last several months touring the state and gauging support for his candidacy. On Monday, Aug. 1, he told Curtis Wright [on his morning radio show that is broadcast in southeastern North Carolina each weekday morning] that he was running. (A recording of the interview and announcement is available here.) “I, Mike Beitler, am an official candidate for Secretary of State,” Beitler said. “The reason I am seeking the position is because Elaine Marshall has been there fifteen years and she missed part of her job description which is to facilitate business in North Carolina.” Beitler continued: “I know how to do that, get the government out of the way.” With good reception already from Republicans across the state, Beitler said making it official seemed like the logical next step. “So many people have encouraged me to run saying that North Carolina needs an advocate for small business. I’m that person,” he said. |
