"Waiting for Superman" is a 2010 documentary film from director Davis Guggenheim and producer Lesley Chilcott. The film analyzes the failures of American public education by following several students through the educational system, hoping to be selected in a lottery for acceptance into charter schools.
The film received the Audience Award for best documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. The film also received the Best Documentary Feature at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards. From the Academy Award-winning Director of An Inconvenient Truth comes the groundbreaking feature film that provides an engaging and inspiring look at public education in the United States. "Waiting For Superman” has helped launch a movement to achieve a real and lasting change through the compelling stories of five unforgettable students such as Emily, a Silicon Valley eighth-grader who is afraid of being labeled as unfit for college and Francisco, a Bronx first-grader whose mom will do anything to give him a shot at a better life. "Waiting For Superman” will leave a lasting and powerful impression that you will want to share with your friends and family. |

Discussion
Following the viewing of "Waiting for Superman", Allyson Schoen, Director of Education at the Academy of Moore County, will lead a discussion of the importance of Choice in Education and of the issues that limit our families' choices.
This should be a wonderful educational opportunity for families with school age children and for all those patriots who are concerned about the future of our nation and the prosperity of generations to come. |
