In May, the NC State Board of Elections ordered MTC—and several other NC freedom-focused groups—to cease and desist the advocacy (or opposition) of candidates and ballot initiatives. It also ordered changes to our Website. What caused this, seven years into MTC's existence, the state BOE won't disclose. However, because of MTC's activity in a Republican race during the first Primary Election, and the opposition by some of its Republican members to the state GOP's ouster of its conservative chairman by the "Establishment" elements party, one can speculate.
Regardless, the board of Moore Tea Citizens is in consultation with election law attorneys and is pursuing other actions that will have us back in the candidate vetting business--with a different legal status—for the next election.
